There is a major emergency response near to the River Roch in Bury for a second day. Police and fire crews have taped off an area of woodland near to the water this morning (November 19).
It comes after responders and rescue teams were deployed to the area on Saturday night (November 18), to reports of a concern for the welfare of a woman. The fire service confirmed they had attended the scene to assist in rescuing a person from the water.
Crews from Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were called to Newby Close in Bury at around 5.15pm. The stretch of water includes River Roch, near to Bury Cemetery.

It's understood search and rescue teams left the scene at around 8pm last night, before police and water incident units returned to Goshen playing fields, near to the River Roch. An area near to the woodland has been taped off and a white tent can be seen in the distance.
Greater Manchester Police have been approached for further details on this incident.

BREAKING: Body of woman found near river bank amid police search
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called to reports of a concern for welfare at Newby Close in Bury on Saturday 18 November 2023.
"Sadly, officers found a body of a 46-year-old woman this morning on banking near the Roch River. Her next of kin have been informed.
"Enquiries into the exact circumstances of her death are ongoing."

- Emergency services attended to a concern for the welfare of a woman. The fire service confirmed they had attended the scene initially to assist in rescuing a person from the water along with technical incident and water units.
- It is thought the scene cleared a few hours later, at around 8pm.
- Police were pictured at Goshen Playing Field on Sunday, with a large area beside the River Roch taped off and a forensics tent erected.
- The fire service were also in attendance and confirmed they were called to the scene to assist police.
- Investigations have been ongoing throughout the day with officers remaining stationed at the scene. A private ambulance also arrived and left shortly afterwards.

Emergency services called to the scene last night

It's understood search and rescue teams left the scene at around 8pm last night. No further details about the outcome of the search were provided by GMP or GMFRS.
This morning, emergency teams have been pictured at Goshen playing fields, near to the River Roch. An area near to the woodland has been taped off and a white tent can be seen in the distance.
It is not yet clear if today's scene is linked to the search last night. GMP and GMFRS have been approached for more information.
