A bar in Fallowfield is causing a 'nightmare’ according to some residents who say beer garden noise is becoming a regular nuisance in their lives.

The Studio Bar, a popular drinking spot for students on Wilmslow Road referred to as 'The Beer Studio', had applied to remove over 80 conditions from their 'outdated' alcohol licence. This led to unhappy residents raising their complaints to Manchester Council’s licensing sub committee.

Neighbour Helen Aczel and resident representative Sue Hare argued the beer garden had led to constant disturbance from noise, antisocial behaviour and litter.

“I am here to represent the Fallowfield Community Garden Group,” Sue said. “Since the beer garden has been created it has caused an awful lot of nuisance.”

She highlighted that recent events featuring DJs and outdoor seating severely disturbed the non-student residents in the area. The objectors went on to highlight a young family have just moved into the area and they are worried they may not stay given the level of noise.

Helen added: “I just feel as if I am living in a Dickensian nightmare and I just don’t know how to proceed.”

Despite this, the objectors were told their arguments had no merit at the meeting in the town hall as Hydes Brewery - who run the Beer Studio - applied to remove conditions but not extend times they can stay open or sell alcohol.

Gill Sharratt of Napthens Solicitors, representing Hydes Brewery at the meeting, said they were simply applying to ‘clear up the mess of conditions’ and deleting outdated conditions that do not work in today's day and age.

Ms Sherratt advised the objectors that they would need to raise their concerns by way of licensing review after stating this was not the correct forum to do that.

The committee granted the application and removed the dozens of conditions on the Beer Studios licence.
