Greater Manchester Police
Greater Manchester Police is the body responsible for law enforcement in the region - and is the third largest force in England and Wales. GMP headquarters are at Central Park in Newton Heath
Greater Manchester Police was formed in 1974. As of March 2020 the force employed 6,866 police officers, 3,524 members of police staff, and 560 police community support officers. The force was placed into special measures in December 2020 after a damning inquiry found one in five crimes were not recorded. It came out of special measures in October 2022. The current Chief Constable is Stephen Watson, who took on the role in 2021.
