A new Starbucks and Greggs could be coming to Oldham after plans for a new drive-thru unit in a Tesco car park have been submitted.

The two high profile coffee and bakery chains would be put in the north eastern area of the current Tesco car park off Featherstall Road North. There is an overgrown building that would be demolished in order to make way for the new takeaways if plans are approved by Oldham Council.

Both units would have drive-thru windows and bays as well as seating inside for customers.

Plans, submitted by Tesco, also include 41 car parking spaces for the two units separate from the superstore car parking facilities. A planning statement claims this new development would create a number of new jobs in the area.

“The proposals also represent significant capital investment in the area and will generate a number of additional job opportunities for local people in both the operational and construction phases development,” planning documents said. “The proposed drive thru’ units will generate a number of opportunities across a range of roles with flexible shift patterns offered, with both operators offering training and career development opportunities, as well as a number of employee benefits, including discount schemes; pension plans; employee assistance and incentive schemes available to all staff.”

This would become the second drive-thru Starbucks in Oldham but the borough’s first Greggs drive-thru if plans are approved.
