Newton Heath
Three miles east of the city centre Newton Heath has established itself at the forefront of Manchester's new media industry following the development of the £16.5m Sharp Project off Oldham Road. Manchester United were formed in Newton Heath in 1878 and were initially named after the area. Its links with the club's history saw it proposed as a site for the new FC United stadium but a project to build the ground at a site on Ten Acres Lane fell through due to local government cuts.
