Openshaw

Traditionally, Openshaw was sustained by heavy industry with many residents working at nearby factories or the Bradford Colliery. Following the closure of local factories the area fell into decline and is regularly named as one of the most deprived communities in England in government statistics. Recently the area has enjoyed investment, including a new £40m district centre, as part of regeneration projects in east Manchester
