It’s that time of the year when Manchester city centre transforms into a Christmas wonderland. The Christmas Markets are finally up and running, welcoming hordes of shoppers to buy food, drink and presents from the picture perfect wooden huts.

There are many reasons why people go to the Christmas Markets but the most common one is the delicious food on offer. This year there is something for everyone at the markets with halal options at most of the sites.

Recently, the MEN headed down to the markets to try out some of the food and give a guide to some of the halal food available at the markets and where to find them.

Exchange Square

Doner Haute – The doner world is your oyster at the Doner Haute on Exchange Square. From here you can concoct your own special dish with a host of ingredients to choose from like mint yoghurt, chilli sauce and mayo on a bed of crispy fries.

Indian Street Food – The Indian Street food stall offers exactly what it says on the tin. From chicken tikka and lamb wraps, to curries and favourites like samosas, it’s all there.

Dutch Mini Pancakes – A popular stall at the markets, you’ll have to have be quick to get in front of the queue for these guys. A Netherlands themed dessert spot, they serve amazing desserts like Dutch biscuits, Dutch cake and Dutch toffee waffles.

St Anne’s Square

Yard & Coop – An iconic Manchester institution. Yard and Coop have made a name for themselves in the city with their famous buttermilk chicken.

Wrap Up Burritos – If Mexican is more your style then you’re in for a treat with Wrap Up Burritos. Festival favourites, their whole menu is halal and they serve things like a chicken and halloumi burrito, chilli beef burrito and vegan or vegetarian five bean burritos.

Piccadilly Gardens

Eat Greek – Who doesn’t love Greek gyros with delicious fillings like chicken, lamb and feta cheese? With a halal menu even more people can get to enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean at Christmas time.

Oi Dumplings – The full menu of this Chinese eatery isn’t halal, but they do have a halal chicken soup on offer for those who are tempted.

Triple B – From the team that brought you Eat New York, Triple B offers mouth watering burgers and bagels inspired by the delis of the Big Apple to the Christmas Markets.
