Huddersfield Giants are understood to have landed Harry Rushton following his release from Canberra Raiders. Rugby League Live understands the 20-year-old is set to join Ian Watson's squad after the NRL club confirmed his release.
Rushton has been granted a release from his contract with Canberra, despite having another year to run on his deal. That has seen the Giants come in and make a move for the highly-rated forward.
Rushton headed down under after coming through the system at Wigan Warriors. There, he was tipped to become the latest star off the club's conveyor belt before his move to Canberra.

He made his NRL debut this season and has been a regular for the club's NSW Cup team throughout the campaign, though he has recently been sidelined after breaking his jaw during a game in July. The move is another example of the Giants investing in young, English forwards. In recent years they have signed Owen Trout and Oliver Wilson, both of who are now regulars in the Giants first-team.
It is likely to wrap up the club's recruitment for 2023. They have confirmed the signing of Kevin Naiqama and been linked with Esan Marsters, Jake Bibby and Harvey Livett.
In a statement, Raiders CEO Don Furner said: “Harry joined us from Wigan at the beginning of 2021 as a young player looking for an opportunity and leaves us a player who has had the opportunity to make an NRL debut this season,” Furner said. “Harry will return home to England to be closer to his family and take up an opportunity closer to home. We wish Harry all the best for the future.”
Ian Watson is likely to be quizzed on Rushton during his press conference on Friday.
