Whalley Range
Manchester's leafy suburb, parts of Whalley Range have been declared a conservation area thanks to their wide, tree-lined streets and large red brick villas. Built in the Victorian era it is home to Alexandra Park, about to go a multi-million pound refurbishment, and the stunning former GMB College, now the British Muslim Heritage Centre. The area is bordered by Upper Chorlton Road to the west and Wilbraham Road to east. The area is immortalised in The Smiths' lyrics 'What do we get for our trouble and pain but a rented room in Whalley Range'.
