RHS and MEN Ginnel Garden Competition winners have now been revealed, with an impressive set of honourable shortlisters.

The spectacle that is the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show is returning next week, and ahead of this the MEN and the RHS teamed up to launch a new competition, offering the public a chance to win invitations to the show opening on 19 July, help transform their ginnel into a vibrant space, and win £1,000.

The winners will also be provided the opportunity to attend a design consultation with Jason Williams, a former exhibitor at RHS Tatton Park and RHS Chelsea Flower Show, who will share his expert tips and ideas on how they can transform their ginnel.

Winner: Shelley Hicks

Runners-up:

Nick Roberts

Amanda Walsh

Bec Greenwood

Chris and Leonie

Yasmin Othman

Sana Patel

Entries shortlisted by the RHS and the MEN were subsequently judged by Jason Williams, the RHS's Tatton Show manager Lex Falleyn and Sarah Lester, the Editor of the MEN.

The winner, Shelley Hicks, shared the excitement with her neighbours on Wolsey Street in Radcliffe.

Shelley, who has shared the alley for over 30 years with her neighbours, had never spoken to them before until she became inspired to clean her ginnel, and in doing this has formed new friendships between residents.

Speaking on her behalf while Shelley is on holiday, her friend, Gill Smith, 55, was thrilled to hear of the announcement, she said: “We’re completely over the moon.

“We’re so happy because Radcliffe is quite a deprived area, and we’re doing a lot of community work at the moment to empower people and regain some sense of community. This is going to be an amazing catalyst to help this, and involve more people.”

The MEN team would like to thank all of the entrants for their time and submission through the wide response and quality of submissions.

Lex Falleyn, show manager for RHS Flower Show Tatton Park, said: "Thank you to everyone who took part in this competition. We were so impressed by the standard of entries we received and choosing a final winner was a very tough choice!

"Congratulations to Shelley for her entry and well deserved win. We look forward to seeing her wonderful plans come to fruition."
